Marlon Lee Moncrieff

Marlon Lee Moncrieffe (Principal Investigator, School of Education, University of Brighton) is an international award winning educator, researcher and author.

He is a council member of the UK’s leading educational research society the British Educational Research Association.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching.

His international interdisciplinary research crosses the fields of social sciences, arts and humanities, using narrative and biographical approaches with particular focus through the lenses of education, history, sociology, and sport.

His international leadership on Decolonising Curriculum Knowledge is disseminated widely in publications such as Decolonising the Curriculum – Transnational Perspectives. and Decolonising Curriculum Knowledge: International Perspectives and Interdisciplinary Approaches. This seminal work includes unique contributions from special Global North and Global South scholars, researchers and educators from: UK, Colombia, Kenya, Rwanda, Nepal, Mauritius, Canada, Norway, The Russian Federation, Thailand, The Republic of Poland, Netherlands, Australia, South Africa and Namibia.

Dr Moncrieffe was Principal Investigator of the March 2019 to March 2020 Arts Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Global Challenges Research funded project Changing the Story  (CTS): Examining Interpretations of Civil National Values made by Young People in Post-Conflict Settings (Kenya and Nepal). The main objective of the Rwanda Academy of Language and Culture (RALC) is to preserve and promote Rwandan National Language, culture and historical heritage. This is done by coordinating and promoting activities related to culture and creative activities. MAP will work with the RALC to establish networks and alliances for children and youth to inform policy-makers on issues of importance to their lives, especially pertaining to peacebuilding through arts-based methods.

Chaste UWIHOREYE is a PhD holder in Psychotherapy, and 16-years of experience working with children and young people. Have experience with psychological and health care of vulnerable people affected with violence and HIV/AIDS, as well as working with street children and I have tremendous skills with professionals, in program development, planning, management and evaluation; proposal development, training, team building, organization representation at High Lever as Country Director. Result-oriented and able to deliver on assigned tasks within the time frame.

Banyurwa Pascal has been the coordinator of arts in Nyabihu District since 2019. His responsibilities included coordinating all arts related activities in the District, promoting talents and mobilize youth and other people to wake up their talents. He has been a master dancer for Abambari cultural troop for 15 years. Pascal has also worked as translator for Family NGO at AEBR for two years.

In addition to that, he served as pastor and businessman and has gained a lot of experience in motivating youth since he was specifically in charge of youth in church service.

Pascal earned his diploma in Business Administration and Biblical related matters. He is a talented football player who did not have chance to continue his career but is still helping the youth from his village to develop their football skills and talents.

Inshuti Mukiza Marie Gladys is a Rwandan traditional dancer and coach; she has been actively participating in Rwandan Traditional dance industry since 2008 as a dancer and dance coach. She has been a dance coach for INYAMIBWA Cultural troop from University of Rwanda, in the same context she was a traditional dance coach for cultural troupes in different secondary schools. During her career of Coaching and Dance, she performed in international cultural festivals in Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and France. Gladys is also a traditional coach of AMARIZA Cultural Troup from Nyamagabe district, which lead her to become the Secretary of Arts coordination committee in Nyamagabe District.

 

Beyond the above experience, Gladys is a bachelor holder in Biotechnology with a postgraduate degree in education and she has been a teacher of Biology and Cultural advisor since 2014. She has now 10 years experience in working with young people trough being a teacher and a traditional dance coach for different troupes either in schools, university and in non academic communities.

Munezero Ferdinand was born in 1984. He is a passionate and Talented Traditional Artist and he has been participating actively in Rwanda Cultural Creative Industry (CCI) since 2004 as an artist in traditional dance, music, poetry and cultural media. He is now the Chair person of Rwanda Arts Council. He has 15 years of experience in youth empowerment, Mentorship and Arts Coaching; he has 5 years of professional experience in Secondary education as a teacher and career advisor. Ferdinand’s journey in Arts Together with professional facts knows and believes that the success in talents discovery within young people will create a successful generation in social and economic transformation. This was motivation for him to be confident and become the CEO and the founder of Voice of Generation Rwanda (VOG-Rwanda), a social enterprise for talent detection and career guidance for youth in secondary schools, working specifically with schools in remote areas, aiming at discovering the golden talents in young people and empower them to become agents for social and economic transformation by using their talents. Apart from arts experience, Munezero Ferdinand is an Engineer in Electronics and telecommunication with 5 years of experience in renewable energy and environment protection as a training and Communication Expert.

A self-described professional dreamer and a woman of many firsts, Katese is a Rwandan playwright, director and cultural entrepreneur. Among her many accomplishments in Rwanda are the first women’s drumming company (Ingoma Nshya, Women’s Initiatives), the first professional contemporary dance company (Amizero Dance Kompagnie), the first international festival (Festival Arts Azimuts), the first national festival in Rwanda (Rwanda Drum Festival), the first co-op ice cream store (Inzozi Nziza – Sweet Dreams) and the first recipient of the League of Professional Theatre Woman’s Rosamond Gilder/Martha Coigney International Award. Currently, she is the director of the Woman Cultural Centre (WCC). Since 2009, Odile is working on “The Book of Life”, an alternative memory of the Rwandan genocide that offers hope and an inspiring example of how to turn darkness into light.

She has recently launched “I Have A Drum”, a long-term program that aims to break the precarious conditions in which the female drummers work in and to build a permanent ecosystem conducive to the rise of a successful drumming industry Made of Rwanda.

Sylvestre Nzahabwanayo is a Lecturer at the University of Rwanda, College of Education (UR-CE). He has completed a two-years Postdoctoral Fellowship in Education and Curriculum Studies at the University at Johannesburg (UJ) in South Africa. He holds a PhD in Education obtained from the University of the Witwatersrand – Wits (Johannesburg) in 2016. His doctoral dissertation is entitled: ‘Citizenship and values education in post-genocide Rwanda: An analysis of the Itorero training scheme for high school leavers’. His research area is political philosophy applied to education including issues, such as citizenship, values, and peace education with a focus on adolescents in conflict-affected communities. Nzahabwanayo is also Principle Investigator of a GCRF Global Engagement Network entitled ‘Building Cultures of Peace in Rwandan Schools’.

Kirrily Pells is Associate Professor of Childhood at University College London (UCL). Her research and teaching are in the field of childhood studies and her work concerns global childhoods and children’s rights especially in relation to violence, poverty and intersecting inequalities. Her current research focuses on: memories in childhood and intergenerational relations; participatory action research and arts-based approaches with children and youth for peacebuilding; and the intersections and dynamics between structural, symbolic and interpersonal violences in the lives of children and youth. Kirrily is also interested in the impact of policies and programmes on children’s lives and the relationships between research, policy and practice.

Laure Iyaga is the founder and CEO of the Sana Initiative which aims to break the stigma around mental health in Rwanda. Laure is a trained counselor and has a background in project management. She has helped to start conversations during Kwibuka 2019 to help people realize that everyone has mental health. She has been a involved with or a consultant for NGOs and organisations including Agahozo Shalom Youth Village and the Rwanda Psychological Society.

Jean Marie Vianney Ntawirema is a Master Trainer for the Mobile Arts for Peace Project and a teacher at Rwamagana Leaders School. In 2017, JMV was selected as a Mandela Fellow by the US Embassy, and studied education in the US. He is the chair of the Association of Teachers of English in Rwanda, Kayonza District. Jean Marie has worked closely with the US Peace Corps since 2014, and has held many teacher trainings in Kabare Sector.

Florence Nyiransengiumva is a Master Trainer for the Mobile Arts for Peace Project and a Kinyarwanda teacher at Lycee du Lac Muhazi ASPEJ. Florence calls herself MAP Mom and enjoys taking care of her family, MAP family and otherwise. She was a part of the team who translated the MAP Manual in to Kinyarwanda, adapting activities for the classroom.
