Safeguarding Resources with MAP

Changing the Story, the GCRF Network which MAP worked within as a pilot project, has produced a series of short videos which address the various aspects of safeguarding in international development research. The aim of the series is to provide you with food for thought, and to help international projects to reflect on safeguarding policies and procedures that are appropriate for different national and international context. Colleagues from Nepal and Rwanda identified opportunities and challenges when promoting representation for people with disability on participatory projects.

In early 2020, MAP Co-investigators from Nepal and Rwanda participated in a Safeguarding webinar which focused on Inclusion and Disability. This webinar aimed to identify opportunities and challenges when promoting representation for people with disability on participatory projects.

They considered the following questions:

• Why might individuals or groups be marginalised from participating in your research

•  How can we ensure that people with disability are present and empowered?

  • Are there particular disabilities that may go undiagnosed in your research setting?

Changing the Story have produced a video with key highlights from the webinar. This webinar features contributions from MAP Co-Investigator, Rajib Timalsina (Tribhuvan University) and MAP at Home Co-Investigator Chaste Uwihoreye (Uyisenga Ni Imanzi).
